Whether you are looking to pick up the guitar for the first time, break out of ruts you may be stuck in or want to add more flavour and colour to your playing, my aim is to help you to become a more complete musician... and importantly, enjoy the process!
BEGINNER
The MOST important thing about playing the guitar is the fun and enjoyment the instrument can bring you - something I aim for you to achieve in every lesson.
If you are just starting out, it's important for me to understand why you want to start playing, so I can do my very best to help you achieve your goals, and get you on the right path to succeeding with the instrument!
Lessons will be tailored to your goals, learning style and taste in music, and to be able to play along to your favourite songs, or alongside your friends is an amazing thing to be able to do.
With younger children, for me personally it's not always about teaching in-depth music theory or intricate techniques, it's about building confidence and having fun with the instrument. I have taught many who are struggling with confidence in their day to day life, and to see their confidence grow each week is inspiring to see!
You will also receive a professional video after each lesson to highlight a few points that I think will be great to practise when you pick up the guitar, specific to you!
I also host regular meet ups with other people around the same age, which is a great chance to make some new friends, learn from each other and play music together!

INTERMEDIATE / ADVANCED
My intermediate to advanced sessions are all about helping you break out of any ruts or plateaus you may be stuck in, offering new ways to view songs and chord progressions, from how the guitar is tuned, to how chords, scales and apreggios fall on the fretboard - to build your understanding of the underlying harmony, allowing you to play with confidence and intent, in whatever genre of music you like to play!
It's equally important that I understand exactly what you want to get out of the sessions - there are so many things we can cover, but over the past couple of years, I find a lot of people are wanting to break out of things like pentatonic scales, or modes, creating sounds out of the guitar that not only play the changes, but play THROUGH them, and begin to do this in a more melodic way.
Personally, taking a chordal approach to the guitar and diving deeper into the 'CAGED' system is a real eye-opener to freedom on the fretboard. Not just for chords and rhythm guitar, but to allow you to use chords as a blueprint for triads, arpeggios and scales. This will allow you to visualise how closely things are connected on the fretboard, allowing you to play with more confidence and intent. I build my own chord progressions to enable us to work on specific concepts that you will be able to drop into music you are already playing!
One thing I've noticed over the years is how often the right hand can be overlooked. For this reason, we will also dive into ways to play more dynamically, including touch, tone, technique and phrasing.
Personally, my heart lies with jazz, blues and fingerpicking acoustic. I teach a lot of acoustic guitar finger picking! I began playing the classical guitar at an early age, which taught me great technique that I still use and teach today. However my sessions are not genre specific, and we will cover new ideas that you can implement across your preferred style of music. I love showing how you can take concepts from other genres and put them into things you like to play in order to give you more colour and flavour to your lines!
I'm very fortunate that I have some really amazing players that come to me, and to be able to give them a new outlook on the guitar is something I value a lot. I strongly believe that you can learn at least something from everyone, and my aim from EVERY session is that you have the tools, ideas and inspiration to implement great practise sessions at home and take them to the stage!
I also never stop learning myself, and continue to take lessons today. I've been fortunate to have been able to spend time in Nashville sitting down with some incredible players, and I make a trip out there as often as I can.
I also organise monthly meet-ups, building a community among the players that come to me. We generally play around some chord progressions, share ideas, build new connections and have a good time in the process!
Most players come to me bi-weekly, but you are welcome over as often or as little as you like, depending on how you learn best!
I send personalised, professional videos after each session so you can reflect on the topics we have covered, along with the accompanying tabs and notation. I am also available on Whatsapp 24/7 between sessions, for any questions or feedback you may need.
